It's a SWEEP!!!

The Detroit Tigers' Magglio Ordonez hits a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth innning of Game 4 of the American League Championship Series in Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006. They swept the Oakland A's outta the stadium, and launched themselves into the World Series.

Last time the Tiger's were in the World Series was 22 years ago.

This time around, the Tigers will play either the New York Mets, or the St. Louis Cardinals. Based on the playoff between these two teams, it looks like it'll be the Cardinals. They are leading 2-1.

Update: As of the fourth game last night the series between the Mets and the Cardinals is tied two games each.

Magglio is from Venezuala. You are right on that, pup.

As for why it is the World Series, I refer that question to Ron.

When the World Series began in 1903, while there were other places even then playing baseball, certainly the US had by far, the most experence, so the in that 19th century way they claimed the World for themselves. As for not understanding it...that is a pretty odd view coming from one of Her Majestys Subjects! Isn't all of Europe filled with things that are now anachronisms, but not discarded either? (i.e. Royal Titles) We don't believe anymore that its a "World" Series any more than you would see yourself as a Subject of The Crown.

Yer can call it what yer like long as CV n Fluffy's Tigers win it!!!!

23 years eh? Amateurs! It took Oldham Athletic 83 years to get into the Premiership. Actually one of the founding teams as it became the Premiership rather than Division 1 the season Oldham went up. Took us 5 years to go back to Division 3 - which has since become Division 1 as Division One became the Championship and Division 2...wtf I don't know. anyroad it took us longer...so there"!!!

This is a language I don't speak, I'm afraid. But the players' outfits are cool (she says sheepishly, having just attracted the scorn of millions of baseball fans across the world...).

We now have 10 pennants in 105 years...if we win the World Series, we'll be 5-5!
